G4 XFactor 2004
The group G4 was made up of Jonathan Ansell, Matthew Stiff, Mike Christie and Ben Thapa. They all met while attending at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. They were mentored in X Factor 2004 by celebrity judge and Westlife manager Louis Walsh. After a well fought battle with the eventual winner and against the X Factor betting odds from most bookmakers, the first X Factor winner was Steve Brookstein they were voted the runners up for X Factor 2004.
Although they were bookies favourite to win X Factor and were beaten by Steve Brookstein they were signed by Simon Cowell's record company Sony BMG for a £1.5 million album deal. G4s debut CD album "G4" was released in February 2005 and was declared the number one album for mothers day weekend 2005 selling over 245,000 in its first week alone. On March 14th 2005 they released their debut single a cover version of the Queen classic "Bohemian Rhapsody" which entered the charts at number 9.
They released their second album in November 2005 entitled "G4 & Friends" which featured guest singers Cliff Richard, Lesley Garrett and Robin Gibb, it entered the charts at number 6 selling over 400,000 copies. During 2005 they made live appearances at the Proms in the Park and the 02 Party in the Park. In total they have sold over 1.5 million albums in the UK alone and completed 5 sell out tours.
