XFactor 2006The third series of X Factor kicked off on ITV on the 19th August 2006 and ran till 16th December 2006.  This year's show saw over 100,000 applying for the auditions and at the Manchester auditions alone there were over 20,000 people crowded into Old Trafford.

The three judges from X Factor 2005 all returned to the show (Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh).  For the first time however a 4th judge in American Idol judge Paula Abdul was added for the London auditions.  They were also again joined by Kate Thornton as the main host on ITV1 and Ben Sheppard hosing the Xtra Factor on ITV2.

The X Factor 2006 Finalists

Leona LewisEach group of contestants had 4 finalists and these were each then mentored by one of the judges.  The X Factor 2006 was won by female vocalist Leona Lewis and coming in second place was Raymond Quinn.
